Our beginner “kayak clinic” has been designed to get a first timer feeling comfortable and competent in whitewater in only 4 days. Starting on Pokhara’s spectacular Phewa Lake with views of the majestic Annapurna Mountain Range, followed by 3 days on the moderate Lower Seti River, ending near the Chitwan National Park – this is the perfect way to learn a foundation to white water kayaking while embracing beautiful Nepal and our spectacular riverside scenery and cultural landscapes…
An introduction to white water theory, river safety and navigation will be provided before diving onto Pokhara’s spectacular Phewa Lake where we will learn a variety of basic paddle strokes, braces, rescue techniques and the Eskimo roll. We paddle across the lake to a nice beach where the water is nice and clean and the mountain views can be seen. A simple picnic lunch will be provided on the beach before paddling over to Barahi temple on the way back to the boathouse.
Our white water adventure begins less than 2 hours away on the Lower Seti River – the warmest river in Nepal. Each day the Lower Seti River becomes a little more challenging as the volume increases and the rapids grow in size; this is what makes it such a perfect destination for our “kayak clinic”. Our support safety raft accompanies us the entire way, just in case we need a hand at any time. Today we will learn about river currents, eddies, holes and waves while our instructors show you how to cross the river, eddy-in and eddy-out and start paddling through river current and mild white water rapids. Lunch will be prepared on the river half way through the day. Tonight we camp on a remote riverbank, and if we are lucky Mother Nature will reward us with mountain views in the morning. Camping gear, cooking equipment and fresh food are provided for the duration of the river trip, and our guides will prepare hygienic & delicious Western and Nepali dishes for you over the campfire.
Today we have a few fun and bumpy rapids where our instructors will lead you down the best lines and show you the appropriate paddle strokes to navigate the escalating white water. Between these class 2/2+ rapids there is plenty of flat water to practice rolling and rescue techniques as well as some downtime to simply enjoy the beautiful scenery, wildlife and culture. Tonight we set up camp on a white sandy beach with a local village nearby. At camp there is always opportunity to learn wilderness survival skills or fascinating cultural information from our expert local guides.
Our final day will put all of your new skills to the test as we challenge some exciting 2+/3 rapids before our white water adventure comes to an end near the confluence of the Trisuli and Lower Seti Rivers, just outside the Chitwan National Park. We will have a final Eskimo rolling test before lunch and good-byes. Onward transportation is included and our guides will assist you to your next destination – 30 minutes to Chitwan, 4 hours to Kathmandu or 3 hours back to Pokhara – the choice is yours! This beginner “kayak clinic” is also recommended as a warm up for more experienced lady kayakers who may be out of practice and looking to brush up on some basic fundamental skills before challenging bigger Himalayan Rivers.
